Out-of-process (sandboxed) iframes in Chromium-based browsers have been problematic for a little while now. This affects all custom visuals in #PowerBI, making them appear blurry unless the conditions are *just* right. As devs, there's currently nothing we can do to mitigate it from our end.

@datarocksnz.bsky.social talks about how data viz is a tiny subset of information design. The key is to focus less on just charts, but more about how the data is communicated and received. #MicrosoftFabric

I saw a really neat take on an alternative approach for stacked bar charts in #Tableau over on the Flerlage Twins blog.

Naturally, I wanted to try it for #VegaLite and #Deneb in #PowerBI, so I wrote up how I might approach it (with some downloadable stuffs):

How-To: The Stacked Bar Alternative | Deneb
Using Vega-Lite to replicate a more readable alternative to a stacked bar chart.

Despite the fact that I've been consulting for a while now, there is always much that can be learned from the wisdom of others, and getting the benefit of @sqlgene.com's experience and insights is too good an opportunity to miss... especially at this price! Easily the best $10 I've spent :)
My Power BI Consulting course is live! you can get it for only $10 for the next 24 hours, and then $50 for the rest of the week.

Extremely grateful for PBIP/PBIR this morning for giving me the capability to remove the visual level filters from loads of visuals across several #PowerBI bookmarks without having to completely re-do them in the UI 🙂

For HTML in #PowerBI fans, new versions of HTML Content and HTML Content (lite) have been submitted to AppSource for approval. As usual, this may take a couple of weeks, but you can read up on what to expect here:

They have a Sub Pop store at SEA! 14-year-old me is geeking out (and bought a lot of stuff on the way out) 😅

I've analyzed #Deneb's usage over the last 12 months in #PowerBI vs. the previous 12 months. As I've been a little quiet on news lately, I've also added some info about what I've been up to WRT v2 and what you might be looking to expect:

Deneb v1 activity looks pretty quiet, but I'm still just as busy working on Deneb in general. I'm looking forward to a point where the code on this next project is organized/good enough to open back up!

I made a repo for stuff I'm finding out with core visuals in #PowerBI (and time to write up). For now, I've provided a workbook for the box and whisker plot I recently posted about (and this has an accompanying video, courtesy of Reid Havens 🙏). I'll try to do more soon!

The Chromium bug causing blurry custom visuals in #PowerBI should now be resolved as of Chrome >= 131.0.6778 and Edge >= 131.0.2903

I've tested my visuals (Deneb, HTML Content, etc.) and they all look good for me from these versions on, so hopefully other folks enjoy similar success :)

As I've not had much time to explore some newer parts of #PowerBI lately, I've spent a Sunday afternoon playing with #PBICoreVisuals. It's certainly been interesting taking a clustered bar chart, throwing away the "bar" part, and then just using layout and annotation features to build a box plot 🤔

Our archery club has grown significantly in the last few months so we've done some work to organise ourselves a bit better - it's been fun doing data viz in the physical realm

The Great Deku Tree was a nice weekend project... made slightly longer by sliding off the table at a critical point ⅔ of the way through and smashing itself up pretty good 🙃

Data viz in the wild (at Aarhus H): probably unsurprising for many, but for someone with a minimal amount of Danish in their vocabulary and from a country that doesn't *really* do trains, this takes the guesswork out of where you need to be on a platform, relative to your train carriage👌

I've arrived in Aarhus for #PowerBINextStep and found a nice spot in the hotel with my fellow Kiwi @rezarad.bsky.social to put the finishing touches on the #Deneb training day materials, ready for what should be an exciting day of learning tomorrow!

As I'm stuck in an LA hotel mid-transit to the UK, I thought I'd make myself useful - #Deneb 1.7.2 for #PowerBI has been submitted to AppSource!

In the meantime, you can use the standalone version if you need any of the fixes more urgently.
