Hi! I am interested in chatting with artists & writers about the new NEA requirements for a story, especially those who are part of orgs that are or were considering applying for funding.

Reading Ayşegül Savaş‘s THE WILDERNESS while in the first forty days of postpartum myself was such a bracing relief against the cutesy platitudes often assigned to early motherhood—an experience I’ve found equally ferocious & poetic.

I highly recommend it!

I have a new story up on Granta, THE GHOST COAT.

I wrote it because I found a such a coat in my home years ago, but also because I once had an argument with several French directors about the perfection of the film Titane, and how stupid they were to misunderstand it.
The Ghost Coat | Catherine Lacey | Granta
‘The coat was technically too big for me, but what did that mean, really? I knew I was larger than I appeared to be, like an object in a rear-view mirror.’

Dana and I worked on a truly bonkers story together in 2019.
A young American was shot in the head by an as yet unnamed CBP officer as the young man attempted to drive into Mexico. More baffling: no further information is public, even nearly 4 years on.

Anyway. Follow her work.
