Elev replacement is common, but to what extent parasites mirror this pattern is less understood. To fill this gap, we studied avian parasite diversity in hyper-susceptible host species that have distinct elev ranges. doi.org/10.1101/2025...

So grateful - this ms represents my intro into academia.🥲

My #EcoEvo, #Ecology, #Biogeo & #FieldBioligy inclined folks:

Do you have your #pics of your favorite #fieldsite?

Below is the "Beaver Pond" in Gothic, CO - nestled on #RockyMountain #BiologicalLaboratories ( #RMBL ) land. Living in that valley was so special to me... I'd love to go back one day.

Thank you so much! ❤️ I'll make sure to take time to celebrate this weekend! 🫡

Also, I LOVE that question. It's my fav part of studying parasites/pathogens - I get to jump host taxa all the time. Birds, plants, insects, frogs! I love them all. BUT... If I had to choose a herp...This lil guy.

In all the gloom, a ray of happiness.

My 1st, first-authored paper was published today in @peerj.bsky.social. 🎉
Started during my post-bacc (2022), this project involved >1,000 #frogs from #NaturalHistoryCollections, 3 #pathogens, & spanned 32 states!

Here's your #happyhumanity post for the month:

It's finally been cold enough for the fountain near the Bio dept. building @ #UNM to freeze...

It only took a few days before it was given handcrafted felt eyes, a name, & it's own social media account. My money is on the theater kids. 😅

Finding #salamanders (& #snakes) feels like looking for buried treasure. The Sacramento Mountain Salamander (Aneides hardii) is no exception! A #NM endemic & in the Plethodontidae family, meaning they're lungless at their adult stage! Instead, special tissues & env moisture help them breathe!(2024)

Where does your mind escape to when stressed? #vacation spots? #fieldsites ?

For me, it would be my time in #Japan. Trying to remind myself that this is the summer to save $ & stay in the states, but I do miss it...

#Sarawak, in #Borneo is a gem of a city. From incredible pieces of architecture that appear seemingly out of nowhere, to sanctuaries & protected areas that hold some of nature's most iconic species! So grateful to have gotten to spend time there (Aug 2024) & hope to go back.

Some of my favorite plastrons from summer 2024, NM. Three introduced Trachemys scripta & one native Chrysemys picta. Each #turtle showed distinct temperament, energy levels, & wear on their shell, but at the end of the day, all returned to their ponds with a free meal having helped #science. #herps

When the weather drops to the single digits like today, my mind escapes back to summer & fall trips out in the field. Nothing can cheer me up quite like sunflowers and fleabane... Dreaming of warmer days already.

May my adorable cat, Sumi, give us all a little reminder to take a big belly-breath and a nap, if needed... We will get through this together.

Throwback to the beautiful wilds of western New Mexico - the Gila National Forest is absolutely breathtaking anytime of the year, but I especially recommend a visit in the early fall. Maybe you'll get lucky and spot three mountain lion cubs like we did! ✨

I've posted one-too-many bird related posts... Have to share some support to my lovely #amphibians & #reptiles ( #herps ), so I'm posting some of my favorite pics from my time in Sarawak, Borneo (Aug 2024).
Such amazing diversity & richness of herpetofauna. 🐸🦎💜

Snow geese in a panorama @ Bosque del Apache WR, NM (Jan 2025). Sandhill cranes not too far off in the hundreds, but didn't get any good pics.

We even saw a coyote mother and her two juvenile pups spook & kill three geese in the fray that were too stunned to fly 🤯

It's official... Sad to see so many people lose their livelihood and community here in the land of the "free", all so a few billionaires and politicians can keep the masses under their thumb and scared of the boogieman.

Took a trip to White Sands National Park w/ family to start off the new year. If you've never been, it's a must-see here in New Mexico!

The wind was a killer, but left beautiful patterns on the sand...
