He said some unfortunate, harmful things. He said them in a free society. I can't help thinking of his parents, his wife and his little kids.

You see, this is very tough, but fair. I for one think tomorrow would have been a better time but I get it.
Personally, I think of nothing but his wife and kids right now. That's me as a dad.

Again, I'm an atheist. I'm also pro-choice. Of course I see the negative effects of religion.
The trick is to use your atheism to inform, not negate. Humility is important. Compassion is crucial. Love is essential. They're needed for our moral evolution, not because a religious chimera says so.

Ok, then you understand enough to stop arguing against every notion of God. A personal God isn't actually there. Again, so what? You and I already know this. In these times, try to see the reality of the positive and entirely human impulses people are trying to express through the idea of God.
