The same reason the Epstein men who raped little boys and girls were ignored by FBI and all Republicans

Question uniting three favorite subjects: finance, economics and Epstein.

In 2019 Epstein's estate was about $600 million. Only the top 1-2 % of hedge funds would earn that much for their manager over 20 years.

You can't do that in secret.

So how do you think Epstein made his money?

@scaramucci.bsky.social If Trump replaces Powell with somebody not quite up to the job and a Dem President is elected in '28, should that Dem fire the Chair or would that just be bad precedent?

3 questions:

1) Do you support Epstein hearings?

2) Do you know or know of any Progressives who *don't* support Epstein hearings?

3) What are the notable objections you have or have heard, if any?

#Econsky posters are, I think, rational people with measured thinking.

Thus I want to ask my fellow #econsky posters three questions:

1) Do you support Epstein hearings?

2) Do you know any Progressives who don't support Epstein hearings?

3) What are the objections you have or have heard, if any?

Finally, the lynchpin drops on the Epstein story: offshore finance!
The immense dollar empire exists because offshore finance is denominated in dollars.

Why can't we in the US get the nice things Asian consumers commonly enjoy. From Asian 7-11s to BYD cars to the gorgeous light shows that are Chinese skyscrapers, I thought America was the #1 consumer economy!

The cause of the supposed "stagnation" Peter Thiel sees? Extreme inequality. In short, Peter Thiel.

The least risky, most profitable kind of lending is lending to people who are already rich. Thus money is flowing to a shrinking, insular group.

Answering my kid's Iran questions, I cited the British Empire, its dissolution, the rise of the America. My kid asked "how can one country control such a big empire." Why are we stronger than China?"

I said "other people make stuff and we make money.

Why the Deficit = Bond Market Panic equation is bullshit.

1. U.S. Treasury bonds are the world standard for "good collateral"

Example: an investment fund going "risk on", generally borrows to buy, using Treasuries as collateral.

Important observation on "TACO" by Ross Douthat in the NY Times: "the acronym gets at something that’s crucial to Trump’s political resilience. The willingness to swerve and backpedal and contradict himself is a big part of what keeps the president viable"

Trump = genius flipflopper.

After listening to the author of the new book "Empire of AI" I am less afraid of AI than I was before.

With AI, the ratio of speculation to fact is huge. Problems are completely ignored. For example, AI models can't recognize when they need additional data and ask for it.

Threatening?

There are least 3 types of money: central bank reserves for interbank, intra system borrowing, lending, settlement, etc.; normal loans/deposits created by bankers within a monetary system and "euromoney" - loans/deposits created by bankers outside a monetary system, like eurodollars.
