Permission for the people in the community to try something new, make mistakes, reflect and grow, Support to build skills and capacity in your school community, Accountability for all school community members that expectations are being implemented/met to satisfaction, Community Engagement for the changes so one doesn't spend an inordinate amount of time defending but promoting and growing, and Discipline to hold the line for a 3-5 year chunk of time... any real change will take years to settle in, disrupt old patterns...keep focus.

If no, reassess what in fact might be interesting to kids and work from there. If yes, how might you increase that interest and find new angles for exploration? What is the engagement hook for this learning experience? Why will kids care about this standards/learning target(s)? What experiences can you build into the learning experience that will increase engagement/relevance? What are your essential questions? Are they actually essential? How are you using the essential questions to ground the learning experience? Who is learning the hardest/doing the most work? What are you currently doing to and for students that could be done by and with them, instead? How much are you talking at kids? How might you do less? How much of the student is present in the experience; does who they are and what they think have an opportunity to drive their learning? Where in this learning experience can students make decisions? How are you helping students to sharpen their tools for this type of experience? How much flexibility can you build in to allow for increased student agency? For each prescribed part of the learning experience, is there a flexible way for students to demonstrate their learning? For the summative assessments, how might you offer significantly different options to demonstrate learning? How might you increase the level of complexity? What is the current level of the formative and summative assessments? How might you increase the level of those tasks and instructional activities? What different kinds of 'knowing' can you infuse in your learning experiences? What types of texts and multimedia can be offered as options for obtaining information? How might you increase choices in resources that help students gain the background knowledge to effectively use the information for higher levels of complexity and application?

If there is this much sun in WI, in January it usually means it's cold and/or dry. Feels like 17°, but that sunshine is pretty great! At this particular moment, I was waiting for my pup to bury the bone she found in the woods. Winter bone finding is her superpower. #wisconsin

So I'm looking through all the front page articles to build up a set of questions to include in the activity. And there it was... a tiny article outlining the murder of an Osage woman that was wealthy with oil royalties. (Full front page www.loc.gov/resource/sn8...)
(Newspaper Article from 1921) Osage Woman is Slain by Highway Robbers Special to the World Ponca City, Okla., May 29 - Local authorities declared it their opinion today that Mrs. Anna Brown, full blood osage Indian wife of Oat Brown of this city was murdered in order to complete or cover up highway robbery on the main traveled road in the western Osage. Doctors located a bullet would on the top of her head. As an Osage she was getting $1,000 monthly in oil royalities.

The world of learning at SLA-Middle School is such a delight to visit. @timothymboyle.bsky.social and his hard-working teachers continue to grow the inquiry driven, project based school so effectively. The work we did to build the new school is one of the things I'm most proud of... #sogood
