There was only one guy I have ever encountered whose AMA and his name (or fake name) was Mark Twain. In the 1860s Twain lived in San Francisco, and wrote columns for the papers there. He wrote a column called "Answers to Correspondents" column in the Territorial Enterprise, and here is the best.

AMA as it is now known throughout internetdom originally was created on Reddit (as are most things evil) but now is the preferred method of begging employed by podcasters. The questions are generally inane, and the answers are things no one really cares about. But constant engagement is necessary.

The problem with the flattering the audience and attempting faux intimacy is that you have to have continual "content" (it used to be thought of as writing) as well as some kind of near connection with the donors. And so was invented the "Ask Me Anything."

The amount of manpower spent on getting people to donate in this country is probably the reason that only the "tech" giants make any money. They are also the only ones who seem not to advertise on podcasts. (They may be foolish in sinking their wealth in AI but they are not fools.)

Much effort is expended to flatter the listeners to keep the clicks coming. All the listeners are "amazing" and the podcaster usually "loves" them all. The next step is to get them to join the channel or contribute regularly via Patreon.

And when this man finally leaves this life, I hope those who think he should be canonized and Post Offices should be named after him ... I hope they remember this weekend. And the string of disgrace he covered his office with.
