4. In addition to the millions of people around the world who are already suffering from the halting of aid, the funding cutoff also impacts billions of dollars that go to US businesses and farmers that supply the food and humanitarian goods that go to these locations, impacting jobs & our economy

3. Musk himself worked with USAID to bring his Starlink services to Ukraine. In fact, his beef with USAID may stem partly from USAID’s inspector general investigation into how those terminals were used to Russia’s benefit.

5/ These poems inspired a composer, Huong Ruo, to set them to music, and inspired the amazing Oakland Ballet Company to engage 7 Asian choreographers to set his oratorio to dance. The company is planning to have a special preview performance of these works on Angel Island on March 22 and 29, and

3/ The most compelling part of my visit was seeing the poems carved into the wooden walls. The immigrant detainees composed poems, abiding by Chinese poetic structures, and then carefully and artfully carved them into the walls.

2/ I took the ferry from San Francisco and toured some of the surviving buildings, including the hospital, where invasive physical exams were performed, again to try and reject Asian immigrants, and a barracks building, where people were detained for as long as 22 months.
