As an entrepreneur I did, for nearly 40 years, and our employees’ and their families’ well-being depended on how well we did said research. And what a rush it was, akin to what I imagine a Drano enema must feel like.

A lot of them in my experience didn’t do that, because a shockingly large number of people don’t seem to know how to actually use The Google. (Leaving aside that results are now enshittified with AI summaries.) Many of them just listen to the “research” of RFK Jr., Aaron Rodgers, and Bret Weinstein.

I think it’s giving them far too much credit to chalk this up to mere incompetence. They’re just working for different clients and to different ends than their official job descriptions would have you believe.
