Silksong was absolutely my GOTY. Despite being even harder than the original, something about it got me in the zone, so I loved those tough bosses as much as exploring its world.

- Astro Bot
- Blue Prince
- Hollow Knight: Silksong
- The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe

Music (albums)

This year I decided to stop listening to the same music on loop & actually try some new albums, starting with bands I already know.

- A Note Let Go (Duke Special)
- Hit the Ground Running (Newton Faulkner)
- The Lost Songs (McFly)
- The White Album (The Beatles)

Movies

Boyhood was a fascinating film - I'm amazed it was actually completed! And Take This Waltz was a pretty solid take on some tough relationship issues.

- Boyhood
- Chef
- Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning
- Take This Waltz

Manga (I'm up-to-date on)

I can never cut this down to 4 because I've been reading most of these for years.
But the list changed a bit. Time for Torture & Blooming Love ended this year, I'm finally caught up on Witch Hat Atelier, & Home at the Horizon is my favourite new series.

Looney Tunes

My Looney Tunes journey is currently on pause, but I watched hundreds of episodes from 1932-1944 and these were my favourites.

- Porky in Wackyland (1938)
- You Ought to Be in Pictures (1940)
- Porky Pig's Feat (1943)
- Little Red Riding Rabbit (1944)

Comics

This year I got through 1990-1991 of the DC universe (reading the bits that interest me).
I read a lot more Green Arrow than I planned! That Detective Comics arc was surprisingly strong.

- Detective Comics 622-624
- Green Arrow vols 5-7
- Sandman vols 4-5
- Time Masters

Anime

This year had a lot of good anime, but City and Orb were easily my favourites. City is an absolute delight, and Orb got more and more gripping.

- City: The Animation
- Kids on the Slope
- Orb: On the Movements of the Earth
- Shoshimin: How to Become Ordinary season 2

It's a 25-minute video, you're safe to watch it! It's a good video.

They look into some actual studies that have been done on the subject, and it seems to be a mix of factors like the short form and the randomised delivery.

That's all!

The new fall season has already started, but nothing's grabbed my attention, so I'm just watching Umamusume at the moment.
Maybe I'll finally have time to watch some anime from my backlog!

Lastly, Secrets of the Silent Witch was a fun little story with an overpowered witch who's held back by her severe social anxiety. It's a blend of concepts I've seen before, but it has some fun characters and a good aesthetic. The actual plots left a little to be desired though.

Osomatsu-san's fourth season opted for mostly whole-episode plots (instead of several stories per episode). This occasionally paid off, with slow builds to big punchlines, but it made the whole season very hit or miss. It's always good to see these lovable idiots again though.

Like Nichijou, not every joke works for me, but the delivery is consistently funny & inventive. City has a slightly mellower vibe, with more likable characters and quiet moments. Their individual stories build and eventually cross paths, like in the wildly creative 5th episode.

City: The Animation was an absolute delight this season. As the spiritual successor to Nichijou, it delivered fantastic animation for the silliest jokes, and their commitment to City's distinct art style made this a uniquely gorgeous show to look at.

The whole thing is absurd and I don't blame anyone for being taken out of it by tonal whiplash, but for me they played the seriousness of the situation so earnestly that the emotional scenes legit worked. You also get an actual ending with everything wrapped up neatly. Good show.

Turkey: Time to Strike got some buzz for its big episode 1 reveal that there's more to it than first appears, but something a lot more dramatic. But I didn't expect it to continue threading that needle between its two tones so effectively.

This season of My Dress-up Darling was a straight upgrade in my books, with better animation, better character development, less fan-service, and some clear Bocchi the Rock influence in the delivery. I hope we get a third season to finish the manga!

Dandadan continues to be great fun despite some weird choices. The season 1 cliffhanger still bothers me, and this season's production was inconsistent, but hit the highs when it needed to. If you're still on this ride then season 3 should be more of the same but better.

Milky Subway was a great surprise this season! It's a series of 3-min episodes with a unique sense of humour and some good 3D animation by a tiny team. It's all free on YouTube in dub or sub and totals about 45 mins so it's definitely worth checking out!

But after building this larger narrative it then just ends on a sequel hook, so no matter how much I enjoyed it I struggle to recommend it unless we get a good second season.

It leans a bit too much on hype and style, but admittedly it does it well. I'm hyped for another season!

To Be Hero X has an interesting take on superheroes, and plays out like an anthology series of short stories building a bigger world. It dragged a little in the middle, but most of the stories were pretty good, helped by some great fight animation in both 2D and 3D.
