Oooh, a mate got me this for my birthday. Quite nice but does fall into the 'booze prices but not booze' category.

2/2 Any of these, plus fruit juices, sweeter fizzy pops, cordials etc can all be made a lot more grown up with tonic or soda to dilute them. Bitters can be handy too.
And ALWAYS a nice glass. That definitely helps.

At home I keep in a variety of flavoured tonics and sodas. The London Essence have some lovely ones and San Pellegrino do some of that sort of thing as well.
Aqua Vita do cans of a cucumber flavour thing that is really nice. 1/2

I know exactly what you mean. I hate the limited options, especially in pubs and restaurants where it's basically diet tonic or gtfo.

I've not found much good booze, but have found some excellent soft drinks and ways to mix them for grown up drinks that feel like a treat and don't make you feel like you need to shave your teeth afterwards.
If interested hit me up.

I've added that to the list. I have the same issue. If I'm paying contains alcohol prices for something I feel very resentful if it doesn't get me pissed.
Despite that obviously not being the point.

Your folks sound like my Dad. Incredibly grateful for his decision to downsize and move to a village with all amenities after my Mam died. He's much happier than he would have been where he was.

All of these observations are completely valid, but as someone with ADHD, I honestly reckon they're made by people who just think everyone who isn't them is stupid.
Too many people confuse interesting with flashy.

Hat company that does very decent hats. My winter one is one of my favourite things. My Dad liked it so much I got him one a few Christmases ago and he still thanks me.

The stories of what has happened to Tilley hats are amazing. The one that's been through an elephant more than once is fantastic.
November 28, 2025 at 2:42 PM
Oooh. Depending on your budget a Tilley hat or a voucher for one. He can get something for winter or summer, they're stylish, comfy, useful, squashable and guaranteed indestructable.

Hang onto it for next year.

I did a hamper for my Dad last year. Bought a nice container and loads of treats, favourites as well as things I thought he'd like. A bit of interesting booze, nibbles, cheeses, the sort of things he wouldn't buy himself.
It was a big hit.

It was a point of huge pride to my maternal grandfather that none of his sons went down the pit.
He was a miner until an accident left him disabled and he got work topside. He said that was the best day of his life. He was scared of the dark.
