Government shutdowns offer a rare opportunity to un-submerge the submerged state. Something Democrats could/should be doing is every day of shutdown, pick some agency and focus on it for the day. Highlight what it does and what we're losing each day their staff are furloughed.

We have a potential shutdown.

DOI is about to share RIF plans with us.

We don’t have enough staff/budget already. It’s horrible.

Now Mr. “Trauma is the point” is suggesting anyone not funded during a shutdown will be subject to a Reduction in force (terminated)? I am nauseous.
Hardball:
“This time, OMB Director Russ Vought is using the threat of permanent job cuts as leverage, upping the ante in the standoff with Democrats in Congress over government spending.”

Please, please, please:

1) reach out to your Congressionals
2) talk to everyone you know and help them understand the government services they will lose
3) support any federal employee you know right now. This is really hard.

An independent civil service is so important for so many reasons. One overlooked one is that it offers economic opportunities to people who would not otherwise get them from the private sector.

Some brief thoughts of my own: First, let me emphasize that this is not the end of this case or the ability of employees to attain relief. If the RIF plans themselves are unlawful, then employees would receive backpay and/or their jobs back. This is an order related to stay---not the merits. 8/

Midnight, June 7 is the deadline to comment on the revised Schedule F, Trump's plan to politicize the civil servants by converting them into at-will appointees that can be fired for the mildest pushback against illegal actions.
It's easy - here is how:

Re-upping this piece because the deadline for comments on the new version of Schedule F has been extended to June 7.

DOGE actions occurred with no public input, so no excuse not to weigh in on Trump's further efforts to politicize the civil service.
