I turned off AI assistance for my programming: it was trained on the whole internet, and so took the average of that. It only does average-quality work, and I was spending more time correcting its mediocre work than just writing it myself.

Re “giving it to the world”: the code they open-sourced is nothing new, and their model is opaque. The training process is what is novel. And we have to take their word for that, since they didn’t release the source for it and the paper is very short. All we know is that it is possible.
