False sincerity has much to say, because it is afraid. True candor can afford to be silent. It does not need to face an anticipated attack. Anything it may have to defend can be defended with perfect simplicity.

Action isn't a burden to be hoisted up and lugged around on our shoulders. It is something we are. The work we have to do can be seen as a kind of coming alive.

The decision to grow always involves a choice between risk and comfort. This means that to be a follower of Jesus you must renounce comfort as the ultimate value of your life.

So I visited our church in the beautiful Hertfordshire village of Ashwell right on the edge of our Synod area. Great to meet with my colleague Jim and prepare for our 'Art in Plain Sight' to start there soon. Also good to hear about the life and witness of this and other local congregations.

Good to take some time out this evening for 'God with us: Advent Reflections in words and music' with Pauler Gooder and members of the St Paul's Cathedral Consort. Lots to receive and chew over.

This weeks film is 'I Swear' based on a true story of John Davidson, diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome. An astonishing film bringing regular tears to my eyes. My main thoughts were the fruit of the Spirit, especially kindness (Gal 5:23-25) the 3 main characters exhibit by the bucket load.

Great to visit, with my colleague George, our mission project at Holtspur. A delicious community lunch then conversation with Minister Nigel about how things are going 4 years on. Overseen by our Beaconsfield church in partnership with Synod. Many opportunities for the future as God leads & provides
