Teaching students instrumentalized writing (“composition”) does them a disservice, especially as this will be the first type of writing replaced by AI.

Instead, we should show our students (and remind ourselves) that writing is a form of exploration, liberation and play.

Grateful to have been in the front row when mayor & council did the right thing. This is what people power can do — broad coalitions & united fronts giving pressure & cover for moral decisions.
