I have gone on and off dope several times. Usually with a lot longer and more consumed before going off. I am generally able to get on subs pretty fast.

Would prefer direct experience as I’ve read what doctors and such suggest as medical advice

Edit on top of the thread: Forgive the mistake, second use of ‘impact’ should have been more nuanced and a different word. There were impacts, the state prevented it from impacting the overdose rates to the extent it has potential too even as a limited medicalized approach

Strategically speaking though what do folks think?

How can we time a plan like this to not get mired in 5+ years of little pilots trying and failing?

Can’t afford that. If we accept that timing we will lose any opening and they will set up our shit to fail and then codify the failure in court.

…wave of medicalized safe supply trials / pilots will be critical to winning those fights of posthoc justification of the compassion clubs.

It’s like doctor shopping, gotta take the meds u don’t want so you can get the ones you do ;)

So do we still demand it? Yes. We slot it into decrim legislation. We expect it to fail and use that to justify the actual model needed to succeed - the grassroots, privately funding, DULF clones.

We will need to defend our work in the literal court and to the public. A failed / insufficient…

Tell me if I’m wrong about that Canada peeps. Speaking with love and appreciation for folks running those programs. Utmost.

But I’m getting at a strategic point I say aloud a lot but never online: the US safe supply fight can learn from what’s happened there.

Our med. safe supply would be worse

Listen to the Crackdown podcast by Garth Mullins for accessible and comprehensive reporting from the ground in Vancouver / BC.

Feel free to tag relevant folks. Seems like this site doesn’t have as many of us on here yet, but I’d love to connect with anyone who fucks with the vision 🖤💉⛓️💥

It won’t be legislation, or another grant program, or a media campaign that saves us. Important things yes, but no solution

It will be the distribution of illegal drugs and a full throated legal defense of that decision.

Here’s the DULF report. My account will keep expanding and ranting on this

So it comes down to, what are we willing to risk in the US? What role do west coast, California, Bay Area harm reductionists need to play to get us out? Will we wait until we have all reversed hundreds of overdoses like Jeremy? Or until everyone is wired to fentanyl, benzos, xylazine, and more?
September 30, 2023 at 9:38 AM
Obviously the legal concerns are what stops us. Look at this tweet from one of the core DULF organizers, Jeremy Kalicum. This is the posture we all need to get to.

None of them have been arrested. The US would happen differently sure. But the risk pales to what is at stake.

The money is there. It’s being poured into police, treatment, anti stigma billboards, and in California even syringe programs. The lawsuits in the US secured enough money to end the crisis, and people are organzing their ass off to put eyes on that money and propose where it should go

The only way to save hundreds of thousands of lives is to make supply interventions. DULF’s model at scale is the core. It will need to incorporate fentanyl and in some regions benzos and tranq. People are wired to them already.

There’s other tactics to get into. But providing the supply is key
