Blake's hair has always given me issues... I think because I focus less on the silhouette of it and more on the individual strands which is never a good combo. Letting the shading do more of the detail than the linework here

Yeah that's just such a bad practice as an author. Feels very cliquey. Its one thing to have your own private projects and selectively share it but he chose to sell his work and give it to a wider audience than just longtime fans. From what ive seen his handling of past critiques hasnt been the best

Theres a serious disconnect between this society's apparent desire to keep progressing, learning, building, but also holding on to their more primitive practices of fighting/torture/rape because "thats just our nature"

Felicity's whole deal with her being from a society that apparently doesnt need to eat meat, where they dont fight each other or kill (unless for religious rituals), where Locket and her entourage simultaneously call her way of life childish and foolish while also "wanting to learn", huh?

Its like he cant decide how barbaric he wants the Kivvas to be. Are they refined civilized people who wear clothes and trade and build infrastructures or are they animals bound by their need to see blood and fight and eat each other?? Their cruelty towards each other doesnt feel justified

Other reviews have articulated it better, but even for me, the constant sexualization of the females gets irritating, especially for a species thats supposedly unisex. Like why are we talking about the women's ass and boobs if that apparently has no relation to their reproduction

This book has been out for a while and I know he's already gotten a good deal of critique on it so I can only hope he took some of that into consideration for his second one. A lot of those chapters could've made for a collection of short stories, not shoehorned into one narrative

I went on a tirade about it to my friend last night, theres so much beautiful worldbuilding and I would've loved Lucy and Celia's stories but it feels they got overshadowed by him needing to cram as much information as possible. I forgot so much of the story already
