It’s a poorly written book: bad prose, paper-thin characters, boring exposition. IMO it’s wildly overrated.

Michael Lewis on the New Yorker, finally. A match made in heaven.

Text is very efficient for searching and sharing. Plus, we have a long history with textual mediums in which both consuming and producing accurately is internalized as personal responsibility.

These, along with many others, might just make text ideal for porous interfaces.

Many reasons for that beyond cultural artifacts. It's very hard to make a 'Manual' for visual tools. Most of time when I actually search "how to do x in Photoshop", for example, text answers are hard to follow, so I end up going for videos. But audiovisual isn't a great medium for random access.

when we work with a GUI, we expect things to be immediately intuitive. When something isn't working, our tendency is to blame the tool. Whereas when we're working with a text-based language and something isn't working, we internalize the blame. We google/stack overflow/ask AI.

Maybe that’s… ok. Maybe you don’t need to change that. Maybe life is not about reaching nirvana or whatever; maybe it’s just struggle, but struggle that has meaning.
