Here's a really good compilation of evidence for masking. A FIT-tested N95 is better than a surgical/procedure mask which is better than a cloth mask. And masks work best when used by the person infected with the virus. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

The sequence of the Avian flu case in BC, that has left a teenager in critical condition, shows alarming signs of being better adapted to spreading among humans. This is alarming and means that public health authorities need to step up planning should this get out of control...
The preliminary sequence from the H5N1 human case in British Columbia has been posted and it is not good news. The virus potentially has a quasispecies at HA residue 226 (H3 numbering). This is bad news because we know that mutations at residue 226 can increase binding to human receptors. 1/
