I see the Indy is also going with asylum seekers being “banned” from doing something they were being forced to do unwillingly in the first place, so presumably this is how the Home Office‘s press release is framing its own admissions of incompetence and waste

Dismal framing. Every aspect of most asylum seekers’ lives is controlled & paid for by the Home Office. They can’t work, are told where to live & have no autonomy or dignity. So they aren’t *choosing* to use taxis & don’t need to be “banned” from doing so. The HO just needs to get its act in order.
Government to ban asylum seekers from using taxis
The ban is set to come in February and any exemptions will have to be signed off by the Home Office.

Money on ALL transport for asylum seekers is about £16 million per year (spread across 110,000 people).
Michelle Mone’s company owes the government over £187 million in unpaid taxes and for supplying faulty gowns.
Still it’s important we stay angry with asylum seekers.

"This is sociopathic behaviour"

Feel like if these were fans from ANY other country it would not be a matter for political interference. These are ‘fans’ btw who started a riot in Amsterdam by burning Palestinian flags and chanting ‘let the IDF win, fuck the Arabs’.
But sure it’s people holding placards that are the real enemy..

Ministers to explore reversing ban on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans attending UK match after PM’s criticism – politics live
Fans of the Israeli football team will not be allowed to attend the Europa League match at Aston Villa on 6 November owing to safety concerns Good morning. Yesterday it emerged that fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv will not be allowed to attend the Europa League match at Aston Villa on 6 November owing to safety concerns. The decision was taken by Birmingham’s safety advisory group, based on advice from the West Midlands police, who said the match would be “high risk” based on “current intelligence and previous incidents, including violent clashes and hate crime offences that occurred during the 2024 Uefa Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Amsterdam”. There is more on the announcement here. The decision prompted widespread condemnation from political leaders. Keir Starmer said: This is the wrong decision. We will not tolerate antisemitism on our streets. This is a national disgrace. How have things come to this? A serious mistake by WM Police. You don’t tackle antisemitism by banning its victims. This decision must be reversed. From the moment that the match was announced, it was clear that there were latent safety risks that even our capable security and police authorities would not be able to fully manage. With so much hostility and uncertainty around the match, it was only right to take drastic measures. As Israel continues its assault on Gaza, killing thousands and devastating civilian infrastructure, sporting fixtures involving Israeli teams cannot be separated from the wider political context. Hosting such teams sends a message of normalisation and indifference to mass atrocities. [The decision is] just completely and utterly unacceptable, and the prime minister has said we will do everything we possibly can to resolve this issue. It’s an operational issue for the police, and government doesn’t get involved in operational issues for the police. Continue reading...

Great line from ‘A Very British Coup’. When the socialist PM is asked if he is abolishing first class travel on trains his reply is, ‘No, I’m abolishing second class, everyone travels first class now.’
They also float the idea of ‘one man, one newspaper’. Might be a good time to revive this

Sheffield set to become UK's biggest city to trial new zebra crossings, hoping to boost active travel and cut road deaths
The new crossings are a hundred times cheaper than traditional zebras, but are not currently recommended by the Department for Transport.

So the #BBC won't show #Kneecap 's set live, nor even acknowledge that they're between #BobVylan and YussefDayes in the #Glastonbury #WestHolts lineup? They sure do make a lot of active political choices to do things differently (where defaulting to not doing things differently would be apolitical).

I support #palestineaction.
I don’t support our government‘s creep towards authoritarianism
If thousands of us stand up and say "I support #PalestineAction", what is the government going to do? Lock us all up for "terrorism" offences?
This is where we show them how solidarity works.
