Happy #BandcampFriday everyone. I have some new music released today - my first record as Of the Night Sky. The Coastal EP is a four tracks of Suffolk-inspired ambient music, beautifully packaged as a split album with Jean-Emmanuel Rosnet on Handstitched*.

broke the back of the problem tune yesterday so album completion back on track. turns out that replacing all the pianos with my 36 string medieval harp was a really good idea, and the new studio addition of a Microcosm has been a very good one.

Classic stuff from @3six.bsky.social here and strong recommend. What Loscil refers to as "super true to the genre" in The Making of Grief Point. Ambience as analog/digital sound world and a study of synthesis and movement. Will be stuck to the Sonos for this winter.
A masterpiece from a singular artist, and wonderful interpretation of quiet details - huge thanks to 36

Does anyone know an upright bassist that could record a part for me for a fee?

If Zohran can win NY, I can finish this album.
If zohran can win NY, I can probably manage to give up vaping??

Strong recommend for the new @phxsys.bsky.social album out today. Experimentalism with structure, coherency and musicality. Best in class..

Bored today? Go into your Bandcamp collection and write some comments in the 'what do you love about this album' boxes. Artists really, really love to hear that stuff.

#Suffolk musicians - anyone know of a recording studio with a relatively decent acoustic piano that isn't super high end/residential? Looking for somewhere to put a couple of tracks down. can only seem to find band/producer rooms or pro classical places and I'm self-funding.

Smashing, this, and mirrors my experience in a different genre, similar trajectory. Was never trying to be a rockstar (too lazy), but the venues and audience were there and most of my time was spent thinking about, you know, actual music. Still making work, but won't engage with engagement any more.

I just found a load of my streaming videos from lockdown. They were pretty good sometimes. It came to feel like screaming into the void but it was good for technique and getting out of my comfort zone a bit. Made me miss the octatrack and a less complex set up.

An essential gig. Can't wait!

Another observation - saying that people could find me on Spotify used to feel like it gave some kind of validation that I was, er, a "legit" artist.

It's now starting to feel a bit shameful.

One thing I need to get better at after gigs is having some kind of little postcard or giveaway thing for people that have enjoyed it. A couple of people asked me where they could listen to more and I sort of fumbled about going "er...search for x".

Bit back down to earth this weekend after a wonderful Woodbridge ambient festival (and one of the more satisfying gigs I've done lately) and my amazing wife doing her first ever half marathon. Need to remember the importance of getting up and out and doing stuff.

Goodness me, new Multiplex! And it's ace.

My early labelmates on Toytronic and the first remix I did to get a physical release. Still have the CD right here (and still stands up imho...literally nobody sounded like us back then).

This weekend: Woodbridge Ambient Festival. A delightful community festival in Brian Eno's old haunt. I'm doing a live set in the lovely New Street Market on Saturday afternoon. Bit of old, bit of new, bit of improv. Then the fab @loulayorke.bsky.social and @lauracannellmusic.bsky.social in the pm

This book has been really helpful as I've been exploring more generative techniques
My album The Lazy Producer comes out this Friday 5th September 2025 on Bandcamp. It has been in the works for over two years and so I’m delighted to finally share it with you all. It’s an album of generative ambient music mikeksmith.bandcamp.com/album/the-la...

Tiniest bit of tweaking to do but holy shit I do belive I've finished an album.

What's more I'm feeling pretty confident that I've got enough to follow it up fairly quickly (either under one name or another). This has literally never happened in 25 years of releasing music.
