We're incredibly proud to announce that Second Reality has now been finally ported to a modern operating system, and you can watch it tear up your system: no video, no emulation, just code - as it should be.

Task for the weekend: Recreate my demo-running enviroment.

My purpously built Windows 10 disk committed "Suicide by Windows Update" and all attempts at resuscitation, even with the help of an installation media USB, has failed.

Yay, Windows 😒

Playing around with Golang's control statements break/continue today and discovered that while a naked statement affects the inner loop as is the usual case, you can pair it with a label and jump to a different loop instead of needing if and state variables. Very elegant.

It's been 4 months since I started the #DemoArts Odysee & Youtube channels as alternatives to the main demoarts.media webside to view the weekly releases, and today two milestones was passed. 🤯

Odysee awarded me credits for "100 verified followers" and the Youtube channel got 10 subscribers. 🥳

The one thing that would make me very happy happy with Humble Bundle is if their store would support different currencies. It doesn't have to be exact, just an approximation of what I'd have to pay. I know I could do the work myself but it's a chore to compare between Steams NOKs and HB EURs

I've always assumed that Youtube has had a fixed bitrate they transcoded to, or at least a set target bitrate, resulting in demanding videos looking like garbage. But now that a few DemoArts videos are live, I decided to check and discovered that the bitrate does vary quite a bit between videos.

Realised it's been over 2 months since my last post. I take my passiveness as an indicator that the bluesky ecosystem is healthy and thriving.

Walking to the store when suddenly the night sky served up some Rapid Aurora Movement.

Taken with phone so quality is not the best, oh well.

PSA: After some deliberation I have decided to put the DemoArts videos up on Odysee and Odysee, in addition to the website.

Here are the links:

Odysee: odysee.com/@DemoArts

Youtube: www.youtube.com/@DemoArtsMedia

I plan to publish one per day until they catch up.

@demoarts.media has completed its second year in its current state, with one captured production published every sunday. Actually three years if I count the first "practice" year in which many mistakes were made, my archive became corrupted and I decided to scrap everything and restart. (1/2)

So, someone (it's me) will be giving a small talk at this thing. If you're demoscene-curious, and around or in Oslo, come. I'll be talking about how some kids in the 80s started making stuff bleep and bloop and be pretty on their computers, and things that led to.

The only known video footage of the Commodore 64 factory in action was found on VHS of a German broadcast of a Canadian television show. Carefully upscaled, restored, and translated, Retro Recipes has restored and re-uploaded this footage, showing us just how, exactly, an 80s computer was made.

So far the last of my #blender rendered images.

This one showing the start of level 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. Everything is done with #lego bricks, with the exception of the sky and ground which are big baseplates. Tedious, but I had a lot of fun making it, which is what matters 😀

"Ants solving a geometric problem and it's amazing."

This is a great example of 'emergent phenomenon':
- None of the ants understand the problem they're solving.
- None of them can see the whole shape.
- A series of small decisions or rules add up to something with a new layer of complexity.

Forgot I was sharing some of my Blender creations so here is another one:

'Mushy love'

I was playing around with modifiers, realized that I had made a mushroom of some kind and well, it evolved from there. Image is so/so but was a fun excersize.

I sometimes wish that Steam could more easily show how a game was added to my account, because honestly I often have no idea. Perhaps not the biggest issue in the world and it is possible to find out, but ..

Very much appreciating Salman Anwar’s photo of The Shard in the UK, which he points out they’ve tried to make festive and instead made look menacingly evil.

'Two tori and a cup'

Yet another #blender scene I cobbled together. The donut are from one of the (in)famous Blender Guru tutorials, the rest was free-modeled by me. The cup I thought turned out great, the plate not so much.

More from stuff-that-I-made dept:

'Blue Marble'

Second #blender scene I did to get the hang of things. Pretty sure I used a tutorial as a guide for this one, likely from Blender Guru. At least enough to get off the ground and then did a lot of fiddling to get something I found pleasing.

Encoding video and averaging approximately 11 frames per minute. Aargh. I could probably find ways to speed it up but those are fragile. At least this way is slowly but steadily, and the end result is good.

From the stuff-that-I-made dept.

The result of my first time messing around in #Blender, with no idea what I was doing or how to use the thing. I was impressed I managed to make anything at all.
Awful but you got to start somewhere.
