I couldn't see it with the naked eye at my old place, I lived right next to a city and there was a lot of light pollution. But I did manage to catch it on film as a little red splotch on a picture of the stars of Orion (using a 35mm SLR camera and a telephoto lens).

Interstellar space is vast. Even if you could travel at the speed of light, getting to Proxima Centauri (the next-closest star to Earth after the sun) would take 4.25 years. And intergalactic space is several orders of magnitude more vast.

Amazon is entirely too large of a company. It should be broken up into its component parts, with each part being a separate company. Let their online retail be one company, logistics another, Alexa another, and so on.

The IIc was great because it had things built-in (80 column text, serial ports, disk drive) that were add-on cards for the IIe. And it was semi-portable.

I have a lot of love for Canada. I’m a quarter French Canadian, and my brother and his family live in British Columbia (the scenery there is absolutely breathtaking BTW).

As an American who voted for the rational, reasonable candidate who ended up losing (under very dubious circumstances), I second that “fuck you”!

I think the opposite, I think the US should cede its sovereignty to Canada. Because we’re sure doing a bang-up job of governing ourselves.
