You're getting heated for this one but I think it's b\c people read the first sentence and kinda take the least charitable interpretation. I agree there's no "objectively superior" game mechanic. But it kinda reads like the 2d6 bell curve is broadly equivalent to the flat spread of a d12.

You cite precisely the reason why the tabletop designer needs to be more judicious—if a video game RPG includes a stat that does very little, it's documented in a wiki and hem'd and haw'd at. When a ttRPG designer does the same, it usually torpedoes the game's chances.

Well the latter is like the most prolific of fanfic authors who appear completely without mental mechanism of restraint or self criticism, where they really DO need someone to tell them honestly "hey this is trash you need to slow down, reconsider, refine, grow." The anxiety is almost needed.

I think there's this problem, right, with all advice perhaps but that strain in particular—because if you hang around the edges of for example the amateur novel scene you'll meet the kind of person who refines their work 5 times and the person who puts out 5 novels a quarter. And the latter...
