Fair enough! Though I'd imagine it would be pretty easy to do that same things 2e does but for 1e. Just explain the bonuses as well made equipment, not due to magical enhancements. Maybe not though. Admittedly I don't know a whole lot about 1e

Pf2e actual has rules for that exact thing. I forget what it's specifically called, but it's pretty much what you say. Just well made equipment.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous would fit the bill perfectly. It uses Pathfinder1e as a base instead of dnd5e, but otherwise is similar to BG3 in a lot of ways. Turn based combat, deep rpg mechanics, engaging story. Can't recommend it enough.
