It seems to me there are parallels between the Israeli worldview of refusing to engage politically and managing Gaza solely through the lens of security, and the EU approach to migration from Africa.

On so-called 'pro-Europeans': Regionalism has all of the worst aspects of nationalism: chauvinism, a belief in European superiority, and exclusivity. But none of the redemptive ones; democratic politics, representative institutions, and a functioning public sphere.
