Kilby Blades, interim executive director of #NaNoWriMo officially announces she's shuttering the nonprofit organization.

This does not appear to be an early April fools joke.

It just feels like we're doing this but unironically all the time now

Getting my health insurance handled here at the last minute. I pay for a bronze plan through the ACA and I pay about $400/month for the privilege. Here's what they expect some simple medical care would cost me above that. $2700 if I break a bone next year, if it's a simple fracture.

Why does this headline feel like a Dr Who episode?

I went ahead and bought my Thanksgiving leftovers early, just in case

I could space my work tasks out over the day so I don't get too stressed out. Or I could cram everything into the last two hours of my day finishing everything in the haze of an impending deadline

Really concerning to see the NaNoWriMo organization buddying up with right-wing trolls on facebook

#NaNoWriMo is no longer committed to storing the novels written as part of their Young Writers Program. If you or someone in your life used the YWP site, you should back up your work asap

On the left are NaNoWriMo's sponsors before last year's grooming scandal, on the right are NaNoWriMo's sponsors now. It's rare to see decay like this in just 9 months

Ninja Writers is no longer listed as a NaNoWriMo sponsor.

Look like NaNoWriMo has edited the post without public comment to add a new paragraph

5. 4theWords - app.4thewords.com
Free for 15 days, then $4/month. Not a traditional tracking tool. 4thewords gamifies your goals. You log in and write words to defeat monsters. This has a pay-as-you-go system instead of locking you into a subscription.
June 27, 2024 at 2:54 AM
4. Pacemaker - pacemaker.press
Free basics w/ premium content. Creates a writing schedule based on how you work best, including setting days off or larger/smaller goals at the beginning vs end of the project. Set community goals and track by pages, words, time, etc
June 27, 2024 at 2:53 AM
3. WriteTrack - writetrack.cloud
Free. Again, track multiple goals at once. You can only track by number of words written. You can weight certain days and it does the math to write more/less on weekdays vs weekends, etc. Create groups and see your friends' progress
June 27, 2024 at 2:53 AM
2. MyWriteClub - mywriteclub.com
Free. Not many frills. Track multiple projects and goals at once and track by pages, words, time, etc. You can run word sprints with your friends and keep up with their progress.
June 27, 2024 at 2:52 AM
1. TrackBear - trackbear.app
Free. Track multiple projects and goals at a time. You can track by words, pages, time, etc. which is functionality NaNoWriMo lost in 2019. Create leaderboards with friends and groups where you can set community goals and challenges.

NaNoWriMo's new terms & conditions say you need written permission before you can talk about NaNoWriMo. I don't know when they decided to model themselves after Fight Club
