Self-employed. That means there's no boss to see when I'm reading a book instead of doing my transcription. Unfortunately, it also means there's no money in my paycheck because I was busy reading books instead of doing that transcription.
Time to post the books I read last month. They ranged from silly talking cat capers to a sweet AIDS family redemption story and dragon-riding pseudo-porn to a teenage take on Sherlock Holmes.

I broke in my new Kobo color ereader. (Thanks Public Library for the free books!)

I saved my Christmas bonus (thanks Dr. Dean!), and mom gave me my early birthday money so I could replace my Kindle Oasis due to a dying battery.

Writing notes for book club books is going to be a lot easier. Bonus: e-ink COLOR!!

Free public library downloads were a cinch.

March's list of books read was shorter than February, even though the month had 3 more days. I guess it was quality over quantity because I rated 4 of the last books I read as 8 or 9 out of 10.

I'm planning to buy the Kobo Libra Colour ereader soon. I held off until I found out that I definitely can borrow library books through Overdrive (yay!).

Can anyone confirm if library books can be annotated if I buy the pen? Or can you only do that with purchased books?

How do you deal with a cat who insists on sitting on your lap and scratching her chin on your keyboard while you are trying to catch up on your transcription?

You McGyver a kitty blockade (complete with scratching brush for her). Everyone is happy.

My project for the weekend is to create a blockade for Sunny to keep her from typing for me. A good 10% of my day is spent pushing her face off of the left half of my keyboard so my transcription isn't filled with random bbbvvvgggvbbb keystrokes which apparently are great at scratching cat chins.

Today is a frigid new day in Ohio.

I made a fresh cup of latte to warm me up. I am determined to not spend the day doomscrolling about our POS POTUS. I'm going to get a lot of work done so I can start the work caught up.

Yeah, I don't believe me, either.

Obligatory first-day-of-the-month reading progress post.

The Gallows was the lowest which I rated 4 out of 10.

The Maid's Diary, A Fatal Grace, The Hate U Give, Listen for the Lie, and The Cruelest Month all got my highest ratings of the month tied at 8 out of 10.

It's easy to participate in the Economic Boycott and not go out for a latte because I have a Breville, and I don't pay for Starbucks.

(Staying off Amazon is going to be my real act of solidarity today, though.) #economicboycott

February 28th is Boycott "day."

I'm participating, because I want to contribute to the cause.

But it really doesn't make sense (or cents, for the punsters). If you delay your Amazon purchases or going to Walmart by one day, they get the same money. It only works if you stop buying from them.

It's the third Monday in February. There's no mail today because it is a federal holiday:

Living in Trump Country in Conservative Ohio sucks.

But today was my beloved Banned Books book club at my county library, which the director started a few years ago because she saw the need.

I'm grateful for the people who value all books and welcome the discussion.

If I take out stock in medical supply companies (like leg braces, crutches, wheelchairs, iron lungs) how long will it take for me to become a millionaire?

@jdvance1.bsky.social says that federal judges aren't allowed to control the president's power. (Aileen Cannon sure felt differently.)

Vance went to Yale Law School.

Did he cheat while he was there and not learn?

Did he drop out and not get educated?

Or is he just willfully lying to you?

I know where the term "as easy as pie" comes from.

It comes from using a giant Sam's Club can of diced peaches and refrigerated Pillsbury pie crust (and a little cinnamon, sugar, and flour).

Making the lattice crust was just to make up for the rest of the cheating of the pie-making.
