In the US, we’re told by our politicians and our institutions, our media, that supporting Palestinians is controversial, that it’s loaded, and very complicated.

Here, it’s not. A refreshing reminder of how much our institutions shape us.

One thing I’ve noticed that’s striking to see as an American, is that support for the Palestinians is everywhere here, especially in rural areas.

It’s not controversial, it’s assumed.

The history of occupation and famine has created deep cultural memory that informs a very clear viewpoint on this.
