Front-End Engineer [HTML, CSS, JavaScript] | CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies) | Web Developer
I became a CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies) earlier this year, and while I'm glad I took the test, there were some surprises and the steps weren't entirely smooth.

I walk through my experience of the entire process to help you decide if this test is for you 👩🏻‍💻

State of HTML survey is live! The first time I took this survey I was blown away by how many new features and APIs get added to humble HTML. I love learning about completely new things, like the existence of a new image format called JPEG XL (.jxl)

Colbert once flamed us on national TV.
We printed it, taped it to the glovebox, and wear it as a badge of honor.

The State of CSS 2025 survey is now open. Happy to say I have at least *heard of* the majority of features that are newer or released this year

If you're not familiar, the State of Devs runs annual surveys on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, but this is the first time they're running a survey on who developers are and the challenges we face in our careers (burnout, AI, layoffs), along with hobbies and fun stuff. It's nice and short!

Finally replaced the bird icon on my portfolio site with Bluesky instead (Thanks FontAwesome for adding the logo).

I met amazing people on Twitter, and am thankful for dialogue with video game and web developers I've admired, but I'm happy we're finally all moving on

"A flashing blue light indicates the router is connected to the internet but not connected to the internet." 🤦🏻‍♀️

One day Google will bring back its web search results circa 2014 and people will proclaim it as a major upgrade

LinkedIn "Powered by AI" is hilariously writing engineering knowledge articles like "How do you become a Flash developer" in 2024, and getting positive supportive comments from the LinkedIn community (via bots??). Too bad Flash reached end of life in 2020 and isn't supported anywhere.

First time I made a proper effort to photograph an eclipse and it was incredible, although stressful trying to chase down a place with clear visibility. I chose San Antonio where the clouds cleared JUST in time

Summer Sunday Squirrel Series

Houston had a few days last week where 93 degrees felt like a cold front, but then humidity came back, heat indexes rose above 100 degrees, and squirrels were again splooting under the trees

Houston is FINALLY back down to the 90s this whole week. The squirrels are no longer splooting as much, but there are some good photos left.

Peak summer and the most humorous set of squirrel poses for far. Got confirmation that this main squirrel is definitely a boy.

Summer continues to be sweltering in Houston. Today might set the record for hottest day here ever. Let's continue to appreciate these resourceful squirrels trying to find any way to cool down:

It's been a miserably hot summer in Houston so let's count down to fall and appreciate the poor Texas squirrels who have had to suffer through this terrible heat through no fault of their own:
