Just registered to vote with @cagreens.bsky.social. Anythings better than voting Democrat — especially given Sean Dougherty running for the House.

Of course, this is assuming I'm still allowed to exist for the next four years.

I'm changing my opinion on Generative ML. Instead of "Butlerian Jihad," I'm now on "That was cute (derogatory). Let's go back to the research lab and stop abusing people!"

Got a brush pen and disposable fountain pen from @jetpens.com — turns out I like the fountain pen! Probably going to get a LAMY safari in my next order?
The brush is for writing 한글, but it's much much harder to control. The fountain pen is too. Time to work on my handwriting!

Made a pumpkin cake with blackberry mascarpone frosting! It's really delicious; I took the recipes from different places and I'll put it on my website... eventually. #CakeSky 🍰

The reason this is important is because Bluesky PBLLC is explicitly stating that anyone can host their own copy of their infrastructure, interoperable with theirs, just without their truly awful moderation.
Bluesky runs on open protocols with open source code. Today we’re taking an additional step and making a patent non-aggression pledge to ensure that everyone can build confidently on our work.

Bluesky's Patent Non-Aggression Pledge - Bluesky

Here at the @archive.org building for the first time for @getdweb.net seminar weekend. There's so much history, both past and future!

The Times is a big paper. There are many thoughtful writers there doing really good work. Unfortunately most of your subscription goes to paying for the people who soft-focus nazi pedophiles or write op-eds titled “I Personally Respect Trans People, Just A Little Less Than Dogs.” Cancel your sub

id say this is it, they have finally passed the point of acceptability-- except in truth the people who most need to hear that are the ones refusing to understand we thoroughly passed that point decades ago. longer, even. centuries. millenia?
Few stories better capture modern policing than this one about a conspiracy of private corporate interests paying off-duty state troopers as part of a "shadow force" to cleanse downtown Nashville of homeless people using metal chains, cages, and violence.

Trying out Zettelkasten-ish. I'll keep a pen and index cards on hand throughout my day and I'll write if I have any striking thoughts. When it's a notebook it feels scarily permanent, but an index card? I could totally toss it if I don't like what I write!
@vhbelvadi.com wrote an excellent article!

looking at static site comments with @astro.build on @cloudflare.social's pages.dev, workers.dev, and d1 sqlite db. i think i can get authentication with indieauth and then use htmlrewriter to update the page cache until i can manually rebuild the site. just wish i had a good serverless cms.

protip: you can in fact have an ad blocker on your phone. tutorial: download firefox. install ublock origin

additional fun fact: firefox android (and derivatives, tor etc) seems to be literally the only mobile browser that supports extensions. who knew?

i didn't; i thought they all did!

i just decided. if someone wants me to significantly compromise my morals, and they want to *pay me*, with *money*, the amount it would take would have to be measured in the billions.

enough capital to build a better world.

Learning Esperanto from Duolingo, and its kind of cute but infuriatingly slow... It also doesn't explain very much grammatically. Most of my mistakes are due to my lack of understanding of the grammar (which is pretty flexible, but it does change affixes)
The exercises are identical, no variation.
