Got lady parts wanded in Dahieh, the only American surrounded by shia in hospital attached to mosque founded by Fadlallah - only of 3 Lebanese shia branches w/o militia (not friends of hezbians, tolerant of America) surrounded by bomb rubble all for $57 incl appointment, pap + ultrasound.

Went to Dahieh for the first time since the ceasefire, which now crumbles. Last visit was during the war, stupidly, but gratefully. The neighborhood is the most "hood" of any in Beirut, for better and for worse. Even the shia ghetto is only 70% shia. It's human, and beautiful, and tragic. Peace. ☮️

Soviet modernism is my favorite style of architecture, followed closely by brutalism, and esp. the Soviet stuff. So I braved the rain and wind and went to the #NutsubidzeSkybridge - which is exactly as old as I am.
