I can’t remember seeing a conclusion to a series as satisfying as Task last night. Every thread was woven to a beautiful conclusion. It all felt natural. Nothing forced. Enormously emotional. The performances were perfection, and the cinematography was like a moving painting.

Absolutely floored.

Zorba’s on Fairmount Ave in Philly has been my favorite restaurant in the city since I moved back to the Philly area over 20 years ago. They’ve been around way longer than that. And I don’t think they’ve changed a thing, spare for adding a full bar recently.

One Battle After Another was really good. Probably the 2nd best film of the year after Sinners. Will have to mull it over some more to see if it lands in the Top Five for Paul Thomas Anderson. Check out more of my thoughts at The Spin:

I just read James Lee Burke’s short story “Texas City, 1947” for the first time yesterday, and after sleeping on it, I think it ranks with Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” and Flannery O’Conner’s “A Good Man is Hard to Find” as one of the absolute best of its kind.
