Southern Transplant- rewritten this 5 times- having lived & learned in NE- assumptions are so baked in that people do not know history of the fight for civil rights in the south, don’t understand the current economics of the south or the generational dynamics still at play.

I taught one of the students in this story. Bright, quick, funny. All the potential in the world. Lots to say about the situation but mostly, these are our neighbors, their kids play with my kids on teams and we all shop at the same grocery stores.

I teach kids who are at risk with IcE. And I know at some point this will be my building. There’s no way to mentally prepare for this. I don’t what happens- open my house to those kids, provide money for the family to fight it? So many hard choices, when it doesn’t have to be this way.

I’m so sorry. My father also had vascular dementia and it is very hard to watch anyone slip away like this. Hard to parent parents. Definitely one of the hardest seasons of life.

I cannot strongly enough express how upset/demoralized/angry NC teachers are right now. They’re sharing the new costs of their health insurance in groups, the lack of budget and pay raise for even a cost of living.I guess destroying public education (despite our Constitution) was part of the plan.
