In the 70s I was at Manchester University studying Physics. I didn't see the Sex Pistols at the Lesser Free Trade Hall but I did write a Fortran program to simulate the flow of neutrons in a nuclear reactor. The rest is history.
Just started reading the Sarah Wynne-Williams book and the description of the shark attack is quite a breathtaking opening.

I like BlueSky but it’s a bit like a polite tea party at a country house during WW2 while Twitter is London during the Blitz. Don’t mention the war!

Second week running that the Sunday Times print edition has more or less ignored Donald Trump, deeming things like a puff piece about Dubai more important.

Joy Division, Dead Souls live at the Effenaar in Eindhoven. Not the first time I’ve wondered what on earth I was doing back then and why did I never see them? youtu.be/yE4zVD8EFIQ

This is funny. My colleague Isa Smith asked DeepSeek AI “can I record you with a time travel debugger” and whilst it tied itself up in knots considering the philosophical implications she attached to, recorded and replayed the DeepSeek process:

Confusing and capricious, he started as he means to go on. To all the leaders pledging to work with him: good luck with that, says Guardian columnist Marina Hyde

Watched Where Eagles Dare last night, fab film so have now bought Broadsword calling Danny Boy by Geoff Dyer which I’m sure is going to be an equally fab book.

Nick Kent’s review of Bob Dylan’s Blood On The Tracks, NME Jan 25 1975 “from his performances on this album Dylan seems to have become almost tone deaf” - although he does go on to praise the album to be fair.

I reckon there’s going to be a huge reaction against AI along the lines of veganism or GM free or Fairtrade - some consumers will demand that a company do not use AI in their production. But will those consumers be wealthy enough to make a difference?

Damn, didn’t even know Neil Young was a possibility for Glastonbury and the first we hear is that he’s pulled out. Much as I enjoy the BBC coverage it’s odd that they have the power to set minimum limits on how much of a set is broadcast.

Watching Crackling Birchwood Fireplace on Netflix and feeling quite tense - the thought of sparks leaping out and setting fire to the carpet. They should have a version with a fireguard in front.

A Complete Unknown reviewers: Bob Dylan is right there in Don’t Look Back, in his taxi ride with Lennon, in his songs. He was intelligent, sarcastic, funny, questioning, impatient, restless, arrogant, articulate, charming, very ambitious and a bit of a git. He was _not_ an enigma!

Forget Monkey Tennis, why don’t TV folk produce a cross between Big Brother and the Truman Show but set in 1970. The contestants have to use £sd, watch only actual 70s TV. Isolated small village with one pub and small shop.
