I think Malik was still on to something, I just took foundation model to mean you had to fine-tune it to make it fit for purpose.

It seems to me that the sentiment was turning away from the bitter lesson though (i.e., ARC, having already fed virtually all of humanity's written work into LLMs etc). Am I out of touch?
