I wanted to become a professor ( the closest to a govt job, I can think of) during my early career but not anymore. I teach at a local university on a voluntary basis and I have fun, but can't imagine that as a full time job.

The structural hurdles for these traditional industries need a long term plan, which is lacking and no signs of change whatsoever.

I am a former Bayer employee and I can confirm that. While we still have people who work in the company for their entire career, and with an enviable compensation package. This also makes it difficult to find jobs elsewhere.

The non-tech industries are in decline for multiple reasons. Most companies are moving out of the EU and focusing on APAC and North America. Next five years are going to be brutal.

Also the higher your qualification, the more difficult it gets in getting a suitable job. I know several accomplished Master's and PhD folks struggling to make it. Especially in non-tech industries.

The debate surrounding the book is indeed a sign of time. However, criticism on the 7 digit payout, and who should write a fictional piece in the topic appears to me as childish.
