Yesterday to mark the 109th anniversary of the destruction of Zeppelin L.31 over Potters Bar, I visited the display of relics relating to this WW1 terror weapon within the Potters Bar Museum. Worth a visit.

Today marks the 109th anniversary of the destruction of Zeppelin L.31 shot down over Potters Bar by 2/Lt. Wulstan J Tempest.
Due to this loss of Kapitanleutnant Heinrich Mathy (& his crew) the German Naval Air Service had lost one its greatest Zeppelin commanders.

No longer on X so I’ll try to post as many of these edited biographies of St. John’s School Leatherhead boys who fell in the Great War, on the anniversaries of their deaths. It appears the School & its Archives haven’t moved here yet, so no tags. Comments welcome & hope you find them of interest. 1

Flodden battlefield.
One of my favourite battlefield walks.
It's only by walking Flodden do you understand how the geography affected the subsequent battle.

On 12th January 1915, 110 years ago today, HM King George V sent this message to all members of the recently-formed 28th Division who were about to embark for France.

This particular message turned up in a Paybook we recently acquired, which turned out to be rather special…

As 2024 draws to a close I wish you all a healthy & prosperous 2025
I visited the Salient in October and paid respects to the 1st & 2nd of the many soldiers that I've researched.
One lies in Duhallow ADS Ypres
