And while I was playing with the nebula technique, I animated the displacement, futzed with some particle systems, and started making explosions:

And here's an excerpt without denoising, again, low sample rate. Amazing glittering effect coming from the noise on the nebula.

That was rendered in the lower-quality Eevee renderer built into Blender. It doesn't handle lighting and reflections as well as the more upmarket Cycles (also built-in), but it's a tad quicker.

Here're an excerpt from the same animation data rendered in Cycles, low sample rate, with de-noising:

While playing with material settings to perfect the look of the ship (see my Imgur log imgur.com/a/enterprise...) I came up with a new inexpensive technique for making nebula clouds, which then informed the shield effect. Not happy with the behaviour of the shield bubble yet thought.

Made a couple of animations with my Star Trek Phase II Enterprise while fiddling with materials in Blender.

As promised, @jayshum.bsky.social , well, not promised... alluded to... anyway, a little #animation (which took waaay too long!) of a TV in an alternate 1970s showing #StarTrek #PhaseII airing, originally inspired by an offhand line in #ForAllMankind.
Render: #Blender, some assets: #Thingiverse

I get you. And thank you! I was hoping that's how that might look! In fact, here's a render of a scene I whipped up ages ago and kind of forgot about. I think I'd like to make a little clip on this concept...https://i.imgur.com/lXvCvTJ.png

Does Bluesky include audio in these videos? We'll see...

I built the Phase II version of the Enterprise and, with the skills learned doing that, I built the Enterprise-D (both for rendering only, not as a 3D print project, sadly... Not yet anyway...)

Below is a test render. There's more detail on it now.

@jayshum.bsky.social even though the projects I detailed on Trektoy are crowded together on a way-over-capacity backburner, I do still use those skills to preserve my sanity(?) with some animation fun:
