These stories are being framed as political tone-deafness but that’s not what this is. The purpose of these ostentatious displays is to demonstrate that they’re going to hurt people, and not only is there nothing you can do about it, they’re going to throw it in your face.

The conventional view is that the most jazz-like Zappa album is Hot Rats. However, honestly if you’re a discerning jazz fan you’re going to find Hot Rats unsatisfying. Personally my favorite Zappa/Mothers albums are Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Uncle Meat and Burnt Weeny Sandwich, but they’re not jazz.

The thing that amazes me is that other countries that have suffered similar paroxysms of governance - Spain, Germany, Russia, France to name a few - had very serious problems and deep divisions that had existed for hundreds of years. The U.S. had everything - and they threw it all away.

I was waiting in line outside a movie theater in NYC waiting for the previous showing to let out. The theater exit door opened and the audience filed out. A woman tripped right in front of me and I caught her. When she straightened up I saw that it was Jane Fonda.

I’ve found that MMA is pretty good, especially if the bag work and standard exercises are mixed in with close range defense and grappling.
