When I design characters, I draw them mostly from memory. What detail don't I feel like drawing again? Did I forget to add a detail? Those don't make it into the final design.
The gesture and the posture of the character means more to me than anything else at this stage as well.

A character I'm developing who's been in my dreams lately - I have extremely narrative driven and imaginative dreams but nailing him down was difficult. He has a lot of details because his form kept changing so I imagine as I keep drawing him the unnecessary details will sluff off.
