I grew up in Catholic Ireland hearing endless stories of Stalin's Gulags, every library had a copy of Solzhenitsyn and its Koestler books about the horrors of Communism. The stuff coming out of the US right now, these innocent people being incarcerated in hell forever, needs to never be forgotten.

Airports have to play a part too. Two years ago, at 5.30 a.m. in Dublin Airport Departures I saw a guy downing a pint - with three more pints lined up beside him. He was travelling with young children. Perhaps a restriction on booze pre-flight - or breathalyzers? @ryanairofficial.bsky.social

If you're wondering why COVID isn't being covered in the media more, I've just had an editor tell me that coverage of COVID is "not a good bet for us editorially." With thousands still dying, a good reminder why it's not being covered and why being a journalist is unsafe for folks like me.
