Bucs-Bills might not suck
This game pits an extreme pass funnel defense (Tampa) against an extreme run funnel defense (Buffalo) in a game that will hinge on which team can first exert control over game script. The Bills defense, getting wrecked via the ground almost every week now, has faced the NFL's lowest pass rate over expected. Six of their nine opponents have been under their expected pass rate. Buffalo had been allowing one of the highest rates of rush yards before contact over the season's first six weeks. They've (sorta) fixed that issue but now face a new problem: Since Week 6, the Bills are allowing a league-high 3.2 yards after contact per rush. Buffalo's tackling has been a disaster over that sorry stretch; only the Giants are averaging more missed tackles per rushing attempt. Though the Bucs have a top-8 neutral pass rate this season, I think it's reasonable to expect Tampa to attack Buffalo on the ground here,

The Democratic candidates won some counties where Harris had taken as little as 35% of the vote in 2024 Of the 22 counties Democrats flipped—the most populous of which were Paulding and Fayette on the outskirts of Atlanta—many were enabled by a substantial blue shift. Seven of the counties that voted Democratic for public service commissioner gave Harris between 35% and 38% of the vote just a year earlier. Nine others gave Harris between 40% and 45%. The remaining six gave Harris between 46% and 49% of the vote. There’s no certainty that Democrats will fare as well in such counties in 2026, much less in the presidential year of 2028. But it’s something they can build on.

If they win, Democrats will have to use their newfound authority to rethink, even dismantle, agencies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. They may need to walk back the Bush-era decision to consolidate those agencies and others under a single department, given the wild abuses perpetrated under this administration and its predecessors. It will need to give serious thought to major political and social reform, including D.C. statehood, a federal ban on partisan gerrymandering, a new voting rights act and federal protections for reproductive rights and bodily autonomy, including the rights of gender and sexual minorities. Democrats will also need to embrace the legislature’s constitutional authority to structure the executive branch and the judiciary, up to and including Supreme Court reform. If they win next year, Democrats will need to treat the next Congress not as a return to the status quo ante but as the beginning of a new era in which the principal task is to roll back the president’s effort to create and consolidate a personalist dictatorship. They’ll need to fortify the American political system against future attempts to play dictator and lay out a project of genuine democratic renewal. None of this is possible without a willingness to use power rather than just hold it. What we’ve seen this week is that there are still too many Democrats whose instinct is to retreat to normalcy rather than face the conflict at hand.

This report, Deciding To Win, is a call for the Democratic Party of the mid 2020s to transform itself into something ancient, a nightmarish amalgamation of the Clinton-era party and the pre-Newt Gingrich Republican Party. Deciding To Win urges the Democratic Party to become Monstro Elisasue from The Substance. There are a dozen ways in which this report is an amoral failing. Let's consider just one way: Abandoning abortion rights – basic bodily autonomy – after a half century of the right wing dismantling access to the medical procedure. Most Americans no longer have real access to abortion care after the captured Supreme Court killed Roe v. Wade and these politics knowers want Democrats to de-emphasize restoration of abortion rights. The report explicitly calls for the party to give up on reproductive rights, to concede the victory to a movement that strives to control Americans' fertility, a movement that has put every pregnant person in the US at risk. If the Democratic Party is not up for the fight to restore nationwide abortion access, it doesn't deserve to exist. Deciding To Win – a roadmap to losing everywhere all the time – is a Knope-esque plea to become boring in an age of dopamine overload, to ignore the conversion of politics into content to be consumed by a populace with no understanding of its own history. It operates under the assumption that Americans are citizens when we are not. We are consumers of goods and of content because that's all we were ever taught to be. This report is for a world that no longer exists. It belongs to the world that ended when Hillary Clinton's campaign collapsed under the weight of a new world populated by anxious, depressed MAGA for Mamdani Guys.

By late 2018, the authorities were closing in on Mr. Epstein. A series of articles in The Miami Herald showed that Mr. Trump’s labor secretary had signed off on Mr. Epstein’s 2008 plea deal. The Herald series prompted the Justice Department to open a wide-ranging criminal investigation into Mr. Epstein. That December, Mr. Epstein was texting with an unidentified acquaintance, who wrote that “they’re really just trying to take down Trump and doing whatever they can to do that…!” “its wild,” Mr. Epstein replied. “because i am the one able to take him down.”

Campbell’s first order of business was properly utilizing Jameson Williams. Jamo, who carried a 15.4 air yard per target into Week 10, saw that number drop to 10.4 against the Commanders. He was a priority in the Lions’ passing attack instead of a secondary or tertiary option. Jamo was targeted on 23 percent of his pass routes in Week 10, miles above his season-long rate of 16 percent. He was (finally, at long last) seeing more of the easy-button targets that made him so intriguing in 2024. It would have been nice to know Morton was going to treat Williams as a cardio king coming into 2025. Nevertheless, we persist. Assuming Campbell keeps offensive play calling duties to himself — a good assumption, I’d say — Williams’ Week 10 usage probably means he’ll be more than a splash-play dependent WR3/4 in 12-team fantasy leagues. More aggressive passing and more intermediate looks for Jamo could do the impossible: Vault him into low-end WR2 territory.

The Epstein thing has been a unique break in the worldview that allows people to think of Trump as a man on the right side of history
We’re seeing the opposite happen with his refusal to play ball on the Epstein issue. He’s being pressured and perhaps victimized, but his pain this time around is not their pain. That’s because, I think, Trump’s inaction is the first real acknowledgment that his disciples have built their political house on sand. Suddenly, for the first time, they are feeling the foundation of their politics and worldview shift beneath their feet. They’re asking – begging – Trump to make that foundation solid once again by simply being transparent and exposing the pedophilia ring that was meant to bring down his opposition, once and for all. That he won’t, and that he keeps telling his most ardent worshippers to shut up about Epstein, has created an instability that Trump folks can’t tolerate.

In one email from April 2011, Mr. Epstein told Ms. Maxwell, who was later convicted on charges related to facilitating his crimes, “I want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is Trump.” He added that an unnamed victim “spent hours at my house with him ,, he has never once been mentioned.”

House Democrats on Wednesday released emails in which Jeffrey Epstein wrote that President Trump had “spent hours at my house” with one of Mr. Epstein’s victims, among other messages that suggested that the convicted sex offender believed Mr. Trump knew more about his abuse than he has acknowledged. Mr. Trump has emphatically denied any involvement in or knowledge of Mr. Epstein’s sex-trafficking operation. He has said that he and Mr. Epstein, the disgraced financier who died by suicide in federal prison in 2019, were once friendly but had a falling out. But Democrats on the House Oversight Committee said the emails, which they selected from thousands of pages of documents received by their panel, raised new questions about the relationship between the two men. In one of the messages, Mr. Epstein flatly asserted that Mr. Trump “knew about the girls,” many of whom were later found by investigators to have been underage. In another, Mr. Epstein pondered how to address questions from the news media about their relationship as Mr. Trump was becoming a national political figure.

Watson’s salary cap charge for 2025 is $35.978 million, and next season, it’s $80.716 million, although the latter will be reduced again through a restructure. In March, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam described the Watson deal as “a big swing and a miss” but he’s remained on good terms with the three-time Pro Bowler, even attending his wedding in July to Jilly Anais.

By the late 1970s, David Bowie was well past his disturbing dalliance with fascist ideas, one of which was a nuclear apocalypse bringing about a glorious renewed future where the Best Men could rule. A half decade later, Bowie was among the many pop music makers fretting about the end of everything as two empires threatened each other with extermination every day. “So many things are out of our control,” Bowie said during a 1979 interview. “It’s just this infuriating thing that you don’t want to have leaders’ depression ruling your life.” Bowie by this point was clear-eyed about the prevailing geopolitical winds of change. He saw the rise of right-wing politicians like Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. He heard their promises to unravel the postwar order and unleash capitalism and all its mind-bending brutality. He listened to them and his music reflected this (see 1980’s “Fashion”).
