Had an actual day out on a day off! Anglesey Abbey looking lovely in the autumn sunshine plus two great exhibitions, one in the house (men's fashion) and one outside (Earth Photo 2025).

Giving myself a writing day today. I haven't had one for ages and I can feel it.

Posting mostly for accountability and to stop myself checking social media much today!

I have a terrible habit of tinkering with the menu options on my website but I think I might finally be happy. For now. shellydennison.co.uk

I'm starting a new blog series explaining key comms ideas and demystifying some of the jargon. First up is something I come across a lot, confusion over the difference between three key documents - strategies, policies and plans.

Back home after a lovely few days in Stratford-upon-Avon. It's definitely starting to feel a bit autumnal out there.

We thought this one would be a nice relaxing Bank Holiday thing. Took three weekends and caused a certain amount of whimpering.

Unexpectedly expensive trip into town but I've been looking forward to both of these for ages. I'll read anything by Jenny Uglow but this is a perfect match of author and subject, and I love the concept of @cathamclarke.bsky.social's book so I couldn't resist that either.

Productive day means I feel like I've earned a cup of tea and a read of the latest issue of @mslexia.bsky.social

First job of the new month - posting the latest in my A-Z series for CPRE Beds. I loved researching this one - I could have written so much more about the early days of public parks and access to urban green spaces!

A pleasing nip in the air when walking to church this morning and crab apples carpeting the ground. Much warmer by the time we were walking home but autumn is definitely on the way.

Been enjoying a peaceful Bank Holiday weekend. There was also tea, cake and ice cream.

I know everyone bangs on about the opening line of Jane Eyre but honestly how much more entertaining is this?!

The dahlias are having a cracking year. (The less said about our sweet peas, the better though)

Popped into town to run some errands and accidentally fell into bookshops. Oh well.

Just in case you need 20 seconds of calm in the shape of swallows flying under a bridge.

(Location for those who are interested: River Weaver, Acton Bridge, Cheshire)

Lunchtime pitstop on Friday courtesy of @nationaltrust.org.uk's Calke Abbey, much nicer than a motorway service station.

I had this thrust at me this morning, I'm not quite sure how we're this far through the year already...
