I hear that if you aren't finding time to read the books on your desk and nightstand that you already desperately want to read ... it will make you feel better if you simply buy other ones.

You're welcome.

Immunity at home destroys legitimacy everywhere else.
We are a country whose Constitution, according to the Supreme Court, gives our own presidents immunity for crimes committed while in office, but we will prosecute presidents of other countries for alleged crimes and invade them to execute arrest warrants.

Apparently only the people of Denmark and Greenland should decided the latter's future. The Venezuelans, similarly should choose their government. Scotland, however, is not to be granted democracy.

New Year's Eve, and 125 years old today is 'The Darkling Thrush' by Thomas Hardy.

Hogmanay in Scotland. A melancholic mix of memories/people long gone and sadness, yet looking forward with hope and positivity to the new year. My story ‘Hogmanay’ is out on submission. Maybe 2026 will be its year. 🎉

I don't believe in Scottish exceptionalism, but I do believe in Independence, as does the latest polling. If you want change it's a much healthier option than Farage and his shop soiled team.

Read this lying on the sofa in my Still Recovering From Flu state. Gosh Kathy, it’s a masterpiece, the present continous tense adding something special to the whole. A masterclass in how a story can gently unfold. Always love your work! ❤️
I worked for many weeks on this story, playing with the present continuous tense which, I think, locked my sad narrator into a particular time and place in a way that pleased my ear. Sharing it here, along with the gorgeous illustration by Kaylan Stedman Friedman. ghostparachute.com/issue/octobe...

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

You begin to wonder if Devolution was actually WM's attempt to confuse voters about which gov't holds responsibility for which service.

Scots are no longer believing WM's obfuscation about Health, Education, Budgets etc.

Almost 20 yrs improvement with SNP against WM's cruel Austerity, Brexit etc
SNP “weighed down by nearly two decades of incumbency…. Deflecting accountability for is own record in government …by blaming Westminster”

Aye right, that’ll be the woes of free univ education, having more staff per capita in NHS & schools, Scottish Child Payment, reinstated winter fuel payments?
According to The Guardian, it's an SNP "trick" to blame Westminster for some of Scotland's woes 🫨

Amazing how badly the British media continues to misread politics outside England.

Actually it's no surprise at all.
