i expect this to be a very prominent conflict going forward. two visions: one views that the problem with twitter is that the wrong person owns it, and it should be more closed and more censoring to combat "misinformation". the other is open protocols and autonomisim/voluntarism.

Better algorithm control, I.e. if the algorithm starts showing me too much of some account, the ability to tell it to “tone it down a notch” without muting/blocking/etc

This isn't about shitposting, by the way, which is irreverent and hilarious and I want more people around me to be the kinds you find here. This is about something deeper, more vengeful, uglier than we ever give play to in person being widespread on the internet. Is it lack of physical consequence?

but that kind of negativity is universally reviled on a personal, meatspace level! What is the ingredient of difference at work here? Why is everyone okay with the idea that we do and say things online that we never would in person to the degree that it's baked in?
