How’s this for my first post?

My research team and I will see you at #AEJMC25!
Good thread with good advice for us all in light of last week’s events.
This is a week I’ve sat with my thoughts instead of posting. There’s been so much shouting, and I don’t even know if this matters.

But I’ve thought about a lot: gaslighting, violence, the boundaries of empathy.

Every time I pass through Chicago Union Station, it feels like I’ve stepped into a black-and-white motion picture from the 1940s.

So good to visit Chicago again, even if it’s a layover. (And I’ll get to have another layover here on the way back.)

This means you’ll have fewer top physicians, nurses, and researchers in states where there are critical healthcare needs.

This is especially true in red states, where you’ll find hospitals in urban & rural areas operated by - guess what? - UNIVERSITIES!

This decision is incredibly stupid.
Wow! The U.S. will start revoking Chinese student visas. Chinese students contribute ~$15.9B annually to the U.S. economy through tuition, living costs, & everyday spending. Once they are gone, fewer spots will be available for US students as programs are cut & schools raise tuition to stay afloat.

The Trump Administration’s move to “aggressively revoke visas for Chinese students” is as self-defeating as it is racist.

US universities already subject to research funding cuts will lose further top talent, as will our industries that benefit from them as graduates.

It’s another Trump own goal.

The power to define news has largely shifted from media gatekeepers to the general public, according to a new Pew Research Center study. www.niemanlab.org/2025/05/news...
“News” in 2025 is in the eye of the beholder
People classify content as more or less "news-like," and this varies across platforms and sources, as well as from one person to the next.
