(9/11) I’m so grateful to 'Flete East London for welcoming me and to all of the athletes who participated so wholeheartedly.

(Someone described me as a “media literacy baddie” - and I’m keeping that title 😎.)

(8/11) • Media literacy isn’t just about news - it’s about identity, wellbeing, and how we see ourselves in a digital world.

• Youth-led discussions are powerful. Listening is just as important as teaching.

(7/11) • Young people want to talk about the pressures of social media - they just need safe, open spaces to do it.

• Conversations about topics like menstruation and confidence are essential, and when handled with honesty, they spark real engagement.

(6/11) 💡 What I learned from this workshop:

• When young people realize they have the power and capability to recognize mis- and disinformation, they light up - they feel empowered to think critically and take control of what they consume.

(5/11) This experience reminded me why I started Do You Know What You Know? (DYKWYK?) @dykwyk.bsky.social - to create spaces where people can learn to think critically, build confidence, and understand the information shaping their world.

(4/11) We had meaningful conversations, lots of laughter, and interactive activities that made the session feel alive and collaborative.

🧠 Media literacy - and how to spot misinformation and disinformation online

The athletes were so engaged, thoughtful, and full of insight.

Thanks! I have another event in the evening so have to see if I can find their agenda. If it starts early in the morning, I will consider attending.

What we need is a culture of skepticism. We need people to care about what’s true and what isn’t, and for a shared view of reality to become common again. People also need to feel comfortable having their current beliefs challenged. Organizations like yours have a huge role to play here. 3/6

My organization, Do You Know What You Know? (bsky.app/profile/dykw...), aims to do just that. Through podcasts and workshops for groups of all ages, we hope to create a difference, even if only a dent in the beginning, and aid the lack of media literacy training.

Additionally, it is imperative that media literacy training is accessible to all, meaning that it needs to occur in spaces such as community groups and be present on online platforms that are easy to navigate and include training that is easy to apply to any type of information one may encounter.

We need formal education starting from as young as preschool, all the way up to the highest levels of university education.
July 2, 2025 at 1:44 AM
To some, that means formal media literacy education in schools and universities. For others, it means casual education through digital and community outreach. However, my strong belief is that we need to tackle the issue from all angles.

When it comes to solutions, my number one is, without a doubt, education! However, that word means different things to different people.

I showed a clip from my podcast, DYKWYK? (bsky.app/profile/dykw...), from our episode with Kojo Asamoa-Caesar, where he described his personal encounters with disinformation and how that affected him both professionally and personally. Take a listen here: open.spotify.com/episode/5Kb8...
