Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

Wow the bar is low
Why why WHHYYYYY must we do this? Yes, it would be very impressive (and honestly a useful guidepost if they existed!) if there were a person that got fully 100% of 100% of all the things 100% wrong all the time...

Cervical cancer mortality in US women younger than 25 years significantly declined between 2016 and 2021, likely due to the widespread adoption of HPV vaccination.

How do you approach submitting papers for publication? Do you always know which journal tou want to publish in? Do you do research to find the perfect fit? How many journals do you try before going back to the drawing board?

Yes we just posted about #confounding but we can't forget our other favorite: #bias! SER members @mattpfox.bsky.social, Nedghie Adrian, @maartenvsmeden.bsky.social & Elizabeth Suarez share reminders on common sources of bias and how simulations can inform your understanding:

As I fast in preparation for my colonoscopy tomorrow I am reminded at just how awesome preventative care is (a thread).

I have Lynch syndrome, a genetic mutation that increases my risk for certain cancers, including colon cancer.

I would love to tell you about the times vaccines prevented me from getting sick, but every time it happens, I don’t notice. I just keep feeling well.

Neither do you.

And we also need to connect with others who are doing the same work. Locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Who has found strategies that work? Who has good information that needs dissemination? How do we connect those two groups?

Re-sharing this brief from 2022 I helped write... We can and MUST do better for birthing people:

"Making abortion illegal makes pregnancy and childbirth more dangerous"

Felt like this was an appropriate first post
The U.S. Maternal Health Divide: The Limited Maternal Health Services and Worse Outcomes of States Proposing New Abortion Restrictions
States banning/restricting abortion have fewer maternity care providers, more maternity care “deserts,” and higher rates of maternal mortality and infant death.
