A really good piece. As it says, these aren't "uncertain times" - we know exactly what's happening. What we don't know is who thinks it doesn't matter, who is too scared to stand up and who will stand up against it.

There is a role for social media but I think the robber barons that run it have forgotten that it needs us more than we need it. Bluesky is, at least, making an effort to provide a means of connection that isn't about fire-hosing its users. Whether it is viable is an open question.

Seems legit.

"Making them safer for all." This is the width of the pavement on Manse Rd which you just voted to open to unrestricted traffic. Unsafe for anyone wheeling or with mobility issues and, of course for all the young kids going to school here. Words and actions don't add up.

This is the same energy as the Brexit bus. Don't underestimate how powerful it is for motivating people who wonder where all the money's gone.

Blocking is a good. Musk/X is enforced attention. You can't turn off the feed and Musk directs it. Blocking lets you curate your community & enables freedom of association: you choose who/what you associate with. Bluesky is closer in intent to original twitter. (Threads is halfway between BS/X.)
